Emeryville, CA—Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, is pleased to announce that John B. Coleman Library at Prairie View A&M University has selected the Sierra library management system.
One of several academic libraries formerly hosted by Texas A&M University, College Station, John B. Coleman Library required a turnkey solution that could enable staff to learn quickly and work autonomously. Sierra best demonstrated the ease of use, accessibility and hosted environment the library needed to excel.
“Our entire staff was very involved in the procurement process, and each one saw something in Sierra that could help them personally improve the services they deliver,” said Karl Henson, Assistant Director of Library Services – Technical Services Library Webmaster.
Staff will now gain several efficiencies throughout the workflow process when Sierra goes live at Prairie View in September. In addition to having direct system access previously handled by an offsite systems administrator, the library can now benefit from Sierra’s roles-based design to expand capabilities across the board.
Time-saving Sierra Create Lists are especially appealing to the services desk, and the circulation department is looking forward to instituting patron record holds and having the ability to assign logins to each staff member. Complete access to an open database is also a very important factor in the library’s decision to select Sierra.
“With Sierra, we are poised to get a much better handle on what is moving in circulation and what’s not,” said Henson. “Now our director can easily run statistical reports and enhance our ability to analyze trends and usage when we need it.”
“It is an honor to welcome Prairie View to a growing academic community that values the enhanced possibilities provided by our open, scalable library automation solution, said Innovative CEO Jim Tallman. “We look forward to seeing how the library will leverage Sierra’s automated workflows and direct database connectivity to make important new contributions to the success of the students, faculty and researchers it serves.”
Prairie View A&M University is a historically black university (HBCU) and the second oldest public institution of higher learning in the state of Texas. It also represents one of the largest libraries in Texas based on square footage.
