We’re excited to announce that Bloomfield Township Public Library has launched SMS notifications from Sierra.
Sierra is a comprehensive library services platform designed to streamline operations and enhance patron engagement. The newest release, Sierra 6.3, introduced SMS notifications, a powerful new capability delivered through Innovative Phone Alerts.
SMS notifications enable libraries to send real-time text messages to patrons about overdue items, available holds, canceled holds, and other time-sensitive circulation events.
Unlike previous methods that required third-party integrations or complex workarounds, Sierra’s SMS functionality is built directly into the platform—ready to use out of the box.
By automating essential patron communications via a widely accessible channel, libraries can reduce manual outreach for staff, enhance the speed and convenience of patron interactions, and boost overall workflow efficiency. The SMS feature is fully customizable, supports multiple languages, and includes daily performance analytics, empowering libraries to continuously monitor, refine, and improve their messaging strategy.
“The SMS notification feature in Sierra now provides patrons with a convenient, built-in option for receiving text alerts right out of the box. Previously, offerings like this service required complex workarounds and were outdated, non-native solutions. It streamlines what was once a cumbersome and outdated process,” said Anna Pelepchuk, Head of the Circulation Department.
Bloomfield Township Public Library, established in 1964, has a rich history of serving its community. Notably, the library celebrated its 50th anniversary with a series of community events, reflecting its longstanding dedication to community engagement. The new SMS notification feature extends the library’s engaging experience by keeping patrons conveniently informed. Sierra 6.3 also introduces other notable updates, including Load Table Editing Platform, enhancements to Create Lists and review file support.
