Vega Discover Launches Consortia Support for Polaris and Sierra

Starting today, library consortia using the Polaris or Sierra ILS now have additional features unique to consortia organizations when implementing Vega Discover as their discovery layer.

Announced at IUG 2022, the first phase of Vega Discover for Consortia enables consortium members to create separate Vega Discover catalogs with unique URLs and custom branding. In addition, the central office can now set up eContent accounts for the main site and share that eContent with all members. Member libraries can also set up unique OverDrive and Hoopla accounts at the collection site level with subscription details for their patrons.

“Because of its power and flexibility, Vega Discover for Consortia is a significant expansion of Discover,” said Toni Minick, Vice President of Product Management. “Library Consortia, by virtue of their unique complexities, need solutions that streamline processes while empowering patrons to fully utilize the breadth and depth of their collections. With Discover for Consortia, they can manage their organizations at the level they would like while ensuring resource sharing across members.”

First announced in July 2020, the Vega Library Experience (LX) is a suite of tools designed with libraries in mind to help staff manage and facilitate services and programs while offering patrons a truly seamless library experience. Vega Discover, an ultramodern discovery layer, launched in late 2020 as the first module of the Vega LX platform.

Through its powerful Context Engine, Vega Discover helps patrons uncover search results and content by combining an accessible display with modern data standards. Discover provides patrons with a more user-friendly, intelligent presentation of library data, rolling all formats into a single display and providing related resources, contributors, and topics.

Since its release, thousands of patrons have accessed Vega Discover from over 60 different libraries. In its first year of eligibility, Vega Discover received a platinum-level recognition in the 2022 Modern Library Awards.

Additional eContent account integrations will be added in Q3 2022 for main sites and collection sites. More advanced controls for consortia management will be forthcoming for early access partners.
