EMERYVILLE, Calif.—Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, is proud to announce that San Diego State University Library & Information Access (SDSU) has committed to using Innovative Resource Sharing, the consortial borrowing system of choice for member libraries in the San Diego Circuit.
San Diego State University uses Innovative Resource Sharing, the next generation of INN-Reach, to provide expansive access to a shared library catalog. It allows library users to check out resources from neighboring libraries when the library does not own a resource or when an existing copy of a resource has been checked out.
“Our patrons have shown great appreciation for the resource sharing service, particularly the faculty at the College of Arts & Letters,” said Brian Moore, ILS Manager. “And our library staff loves how easy it makes the borrowing process for users. They all find it convenient and incredibly useful. The overall value that Innovative Resource Sharing and the San Diego Circuit provides is very important to us.”
SDSU has been able to leverage group buying power to make much more effective use of the library’s collection budget. Innovative Resource Sharing enables the library to maximize their dollars, deliver a higher rate of discoverability, and provide quicker turnaround times. It also introduces potential to reallocate space for other purposes and services that enrich the library experience.
“The Innovative Resource Sharing network provides an economical way to expand our collection,” said Moore. “It easily supplements other materials we don’t acquire at SDSU and gives our students, faculty and researchers access to an incredible volume of information.”
Innovative Resource Sharing is the preferred automation platform for library consortia for resource sharing across the world today. The Innovative Resource Sharing network undergoes constant innovation to further reduce cost and improve capabilities for today’s modern library requirements, ensuring the highest possible access to resources globally.
“Since its inception more than two decades ago, Innovative Resource Sharing has been the leading, most cost-effective solution for resource sharing. It provides the lowest total cost of ownership, automates manual processes and works for any library independent of the underlying library automation system,” said Innovative CEO Jim Tallman. “Innovative is pleased to see San Diego State University realize the full value of a solution that enhances the resource sharing user experience for both patrons and the library staff.”
SDSU currently uses Innovative Resource Sharing with five other San Diego Circuit member libraries: California State University, San Marcos; San Diego County Library; San Diego Public Library; University of California, San Diego; and University of San Diego. The entire San Diego Circuit maintains a very large collection comprised of approximately 8.6 million bibliographic records, averaging 35,000 resource-sharing requests annually.
