EMERYVILLE, Calif.—Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, is pleased to announce that Proctor Library at Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL, has moved to the Sierra integrated library system (ILS) and Encore Duet discovery solution for their library management needs.
Proctor Library was intent on selecting an ILS and discovery solution that would encourage collaboration, ensure ease of use, and support a considerable investment in multiple EBSCO academic databases by connecting through open APIs.
“It was clear from our first demonstration how Sierra would prove beneficial to our overall operation,” said Brian Nesselrode, Director of Library Services. “We saw a lower level of complexity compared to other systems, the interfaces were great, and we knew it would not require a steep learning curve for our staff and students. And the ability to integrate Encore Duet so easily with our EBSCO resources was a significant benefit.”
Formerly the Proctor Library Systems Administrator, Nesselrode appreciates how their selection of an Innovative-hosted system alleviates some cumbersome data management processes. Updates are automatic now, which leaves more time to focus on improving patron service.
Today, by uploading cataloging records to EBSCO EDS, the library is able to catalog a book essentially as soon as it is saved to Encore Duet. This ensures faster distribution of the library’s newest resource investments while making sure library users have access to the most current materials.
Maximizing workflow efficiencies was also key to a library that maintains a reputation for service excellence. Nesselrode says he also finds staff to be more efficient and invested in their individual responsibilities as a result of using Sierra’s roles-based access to workflows.
For example, Sierra Create Lists now gives staff the ability to conduct global updates on up to 150,000 records all at once, a time-saving tool they did not previously have available.
“Innovative has been in the business of libraries, and only libraries for so long. Their solutions are proven. That is evident by the number of other Florida consortiums who have chosen Innovative,” said Blake Pridgen, Web Services Librarian. “We are in good company and know we can learn from and contribute to this greater community.”
Proctor Library moved to Sierra and Encore Duet from Ex Libris Voyager in June. It joins an expansive list of Innovative academic library partners in Florida. These include: 40 institutions and 156 campus libraries using Sierra in partnership with the Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative, as well as private, educational institutions who are members of The Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida.
“It was a great implementation experience,” said Nesselrode. “The entire team has been extremely responsive. I have been greatly impressed with Innovative’s level of service.”
“I am especially pleased to welcome Proctor Library to our community of academic libraries in Florida,” said Innovative CEO, Jim Tallman. “We share their excitement for collaboration with other Innovative library partners and look forward to seeing how they collectively leverage our solutions to support and advance academic goals.”
