The Sierra Public Services Workflow challenge, our first product-specific challenge in Idea Lab, delivered exceptional user engagement, continuing the trend set by our Leveraging Data innovation challenge earlier this year. Take a look at the level of activity from our Sierra and Millennium users, at Innovative libraries and consortia, from more than 15 countries:
- 199 New Users Added
- 481 Challenge Participants
- 333 Users Creating or Submitting Feedback on Ideas
- 150 Unique Ideas
- 773 Comments & Replies
- 2,272 Likes or “Up Votes”
- 28,515 Pairwise Votes to Prioritize Best Ideas
Clearly Innovative users are encouraging their colleagues to join our growing Idea Lab community. It was wonderful for me to see the percentage of active participants continue to increase. Beyond the sheer numbers, the quality of user input throughout the challenge was quite impressive, and the Idea Lab platform preserves those valuable discussions for us to reference even after this challenge has closed.
“We are excited to invest in development that will have a direct positive impact on so many patrons,” said Elizabeth Henry, challenge sponsor and Innovative product manager. “We look forward to further conversations with the Innovative users who commented and voted on these ideas as we move forward with implementing a solution.” The two winning ideas focus on improving management of cancelled holds and the team is eager to begin developing the ideas for an upcoming Sierra release in 2018.
Additional highlights include an idea related to improving the holds process for “home pick-up” items (also planned for delivery in 2018) and an idea to improve management of the loan rules matrix (further evaluation on this idea will begin after work is completed on the winning ideas).
What’s Next for Idea Lab?
We plan to launch a Polaris Idea Lab challenge on Tuesday, January 16! The challenge question is:
“How might we improve Public Services or Cataloging workflows by enhancing the Polaris Web Application?”
Once again, this product-specific challenge will last just 3 weeks, and we’ll be counting on focused participation from everyone to make the most of this scheduled time. Start thinking about the possibilities now, so you’ll be ready to submit your ideas when the challenge opens!
