Emeryville, CA—Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, is happy to announce the Utah State Library Division has selected the Polaris integrated library system (ILS) to promote autonomy among consortium members and extend equal patron access to resources.
The Utah State Library’s consortium represents several partner agencies as well as bookmobile services to 11 counties in Utah and a resource sharing collection housed at the State Library. State agency partners include the Division of State History, Utah State Archives, the Division of Natural Resources, and the Utah State Law Library. Polaris was the solution best equipped to satisfy the diverse needs of all programs and library partners.
“Polaris enables us to share the same system while still maintaining separate, but robust collections,” said Utah State Library Assistant Director Kari May. “We really like the customization features that allow each member library to create their own online identity.”
The Polaris PowerPAC discovery interface easily allows Utah State to personalize every library portal page in the consortium. Each member can provide customized navigation links, carousel displays, and a uniquely branded page banner. These features give patrons a rich experience without added complexity or extra cost to the library.
Effectively reaching patrons in rural parts of Utah is a top priority for the State Library. Polaris’ additional web browser capabilities were an important asset for their bookmobile staff.
“Having the Web App to run completely through a browser, as opposed to a remote client app, is a great benefit,” said May. “Our bookmobiles run through 11 counties in areas of the state where there is low connectivity and bandwidth. We are grateful to have a responsive solution we can depend on to reach patrons who can’t access our brick and mortar libraries.”
Polaris replaced the SirsiDynix Symphony solution. Utah State Library Division went live on Polaris in May.
“Innovative is pleased to see how the Utah State Library is leveraging this solution to provide local autonomy to partners while extending patron engagement opportunities,” said Innovative CEO Jim Tallman. “This truly demonstrates how our robust systems enable cost-effective resource sharing and enhance the library’s ability to meet patrons right where they are.”
