EMERYVILLE, Calif.—Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, is happy to announce that Idaho State University (ISU) in Pocatello, Idaho, has selected the Sierra integrated library system (ILS) and the Encore Duet discovery layer for the Eli M. Oboler Library and satellite locations.
From certificate-level to post-graduate, the libraries at ISU support information needs for a substantial 250 academic programs, serving over 13,000 students. Including government documents, the entire university collection holds nearly one million items.
After a thorough evaluation process, the library determined that Sierra offered the strongest depth of functionality to both maintain the existing discovery service and improve the user experience through online access.
“Retaining EBSCO Discovery Services was very important,” said Rick Dutson, Purchasing Agent at Idaho State University. “Sierra enables tightly integrated access between EBSCO and Innovative’s Encore Duet discovery layer. This was a significant benefit.”
“We are very pleased with the choice we made in Sierra,” said Karl Bridges, Dean University Librarian at Idaho State University’s Eli M. Oboler Library. “It enables us to make great enhancements over the capabilities we currently have. This is a solution that will allow us to grow and develop creative ways to build better experiences for our students, faculty and researchers.”
ISU plans to migrate from Ex Libris’ Voyager ILS to Sierra in May 2018. Library staff at Eli M. Oboler Library welcome the ability to improve workflow efficiencies with Sierra, Mobile Worklists, and Create Lists functionality. They are equally excited about the opportunity to further optimize the user experience by the fall semester.
In his capacity as dean, Bridges said he especially appreciates the superior reporting capabilities offered through the Decision Center collection management tool. “I am very impressed with the insights this tool provides when considering statistics, usage, and finance,” explained Bridges. “This kind of comprehensive data is essential for maintaining operational effectiveness and informed decision making.”
“Supporting an open library platform is critical to the future of academic library partners and the specific integration between EBSCO and Innovative’s Encore Duet discovery layer will enable ISU to provide better content discovery services for all users,” said Innovative CEO Jim Tallman. “Innovative is very pleased to see new library partners like ISU recognize the value of a solution that delivers deeper connectivity and creates more value for the staff and patrons.”
