The Innovative Knowledge Base Release 1.0 Extends Range and Quality of Library Data

Robust knowledge base with real-time updates supports integrated resource management across content lifecycle

Emeryville, CA—Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, has begun beta testing the Innovative Knowledge Base Release 1.0 to integrate higher quality content and better coverage of library data in one location.

Built on the Innovative Open Library Stack, the Innovative Knowledge Base serves as the single source of catalog data; integrating holdings and managed resources across entire library systems, in real-time.

Using modern day indexing, the Innovative Knowledge Base includes full bibliographic descriptive data for eBooks, eJournals, print resources and corresponding metadata for license and order data, archival and digital objects, and course and reading lists. Additionally, it provides the foundation for all electronic resource management (ERM) workflows, delivers automatic bi-directional updates and synchronization, and offers a reimagined staff experience.

“By developing an open cloud-based solution in collaboration with content providers and the library community, Innovative is in a leading position to address the difficult domain challenges that will enable knowledge bases to better serve library professionals and their workflows”, said David Kay, Director at Sero Consulting. “For example, by embracing package data from consortium editors and providing access to quality bibliographic metadata through a fully automated workflow, the Innovative Knowledge Base will be a powerful resource for libraries worldwide.”

Innovative uses public-facing APIs to support the library’s preferred software selections for discovery, management, and linking tools—without sacrificing efficient workflows. The responsive web application also allows Sierra users to gain access to the knowledge base with their existing authentication.

While the Innovative Knowledge Base has clear advantages for library workflows, it also brings value to patrons and the way they engage the library and its resources. Connection points within the metadata bind resources together, enabling users to see advanced relationships within the knowledge base.

“Having a unified and fully automated knowledge base with an integrated set of tools will help streamline library workflows, but it also offers a unique advantage to patrons,” said Leif Pedersen, Executive Vice President at Innovative. “The connection points within the Innovative Knowledge Base provide transparency into the resources available at the library, which can spark curiosities, tap patron interests, inspire deeper study, and reveal new insights that may lead to greater discovery.”
