Complete staff capabilities in Sierra web application and expanded APIs improve library workflows
Emeryville, CA—Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, has launched Sierra Release 2.3 to deliver enhancements that strengthen library service offerings and staff workflows. Sierra Release 2.3 increases efficiencies by exposing comprehensive staff capabilities in a web application, and supporting more robust integrations with third-party systems and locally developed applications.
Now, library staff can access all functional areas of Sierra in a web browser, on their preferred devices, from their preferred locations. This will eliminate the need for a staff client to be installed on local workstations, and automatic updates ensure every interaction leverages the most current software.
“We are very excited about the Sierra web application,” says Renee Brumett, Electronic Resources Librarian at Springfield-Greene County Library District. “Several libraries in our consortium contend with challenging network issues, so moving all staff functions to the web brings tremendous value. This will improve the experience for our member libraries and their patrons, plus make it easier for our central office to support them. We are also experimenting with the Sierra web application at outreach events and in our bookmobile, and looking forward to the flexibility that this new solution promises.”
The latest release of Sierra demonstrates Innovative’s ongoing commitment to open systems for libraries, introducing new RESTful APIs to improve library workflows. A new Sierra Acquisitions API offers real-time integration with third-party selection and ordering tools, such as GOBI from YBP Library Services. Additionally, a new Sierra Search API supports complex “Create Lists” style queries from external applications, including library-developed extensions.
“Our open solutions provide libraries with significant advantages,” said Leif Pedersen, Executive Vice President, Product at Innovative. “The robust APIs in Sierra Release 2.3 enable libraries to streamline workflows that invoke multiple systems, and stimulate innovation among the library developer community. Library partners who have already adopted Sierra Release 2.3 experience the benefits of more efficient operations, and as a result, staff have more time to focus on strategic initiatives.”
Sierra Release 2.3 marks the third enhancement release to Sierra since the beginning of 2016, with each new version delivering advantages for library business operations, patron experience, and system extensibility.
