Drawing from Innovative's 25-year history and expertise, our proximity to and relationships with Silicon Valley, the hub of today's technology, as well as our goal to create the best library solutions, the Millennium system continues to be the industry leader, blazing a trail to the future. Millennium offers several optional products designed to further enhance and meet the specific needs of each individual library.

Community Information Databases

The Community/Campus Information Database provides the capability for the library to build a non-bibliographic database of campus or community information, including an events calendar, and to make that database available to users of the OPAC with the same types of indexes and displays that are available in the library's regular database.

INN-Keeper

For those libraries whose operations would benefit from outsourcing the storage and maintenance of a local server, Innovative provides INN-Keeper, an ASP (Application Service Provider) solution. INN-Keeper is a fully functional Millennium system maintained by Innovative staff. INN-Keeper systems are housed on a secure, dedicated server and are always available to patrons and staff via the Internet.

Innovative takes care of all system administration, including day-to-day maintenance, backups, installation of new software releases, and more. This solution provides the same system that is available on the locally licensed Millennium, without the requirements of an onsite server.

INN-Keeper offers the same flexibility for the loading and profiling of data for the library; in addition, the library receives the same onsite training for all modules of the system-just as with any other Millennium installation.

Key Features:

  • Fully functional Millennium system: you can create your own configuration
  • No need for onsite hardware and maintenance support
  • Low-cost lease arrangement
  • Secure
  • Proven track record: in use by libraries since 1997

Internationalization

Innovative is committed to providing complete library automation systems for the entire world: with fourteen user-interface languages and character support for dozens more (e.g., Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, and Chinese), libraries around the globe can rely on Innovative for products that are truly international. Because Innovative is Unicode compliant, Millennium can display data in more than one language or character set in a single screen. Millennium's optional Foreign Language Interface module provides the ability to display OPAC and staff menus in many languages, including French, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, and Welsh--to name a few that are already being used by libraries. This product allows the library to set a default language for any workstation or login. The patron can also select another available language with a single keystroke.

Screens in the OPAC (and other modules) can be set up to be multilingual. Operators may easily change the language of the system's messages from English to other languages. The operator simply selects the Change Language option on the greeting screen of the public catalog.

Millennium also supports the input, display, and indexing of data in various languages and scripts. For example, from a single WebPAC Pro screen, users can view data containing multiple languages and scripts. In addition, Innovative has developed special indexing to support the proper sorting of diacritics (e.g., the Spanish "ñ" sorts separately from the character "n"). Languages that have special sort order indexing include Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese, Estonian, Hebrew, Polish, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, and Turkish.

Report Writer

A powerful tool that allows library staff to create dozens of review files for hundreds of thousands of records at a time for in-depth, statistical analysis, Innovative's Report Writer provides libraries the capability to create review lists (such as new items, bestsellers, etc.).

Table of Contents

With Millennium's Table of Contents software, libraries may enrich records with "Table of Contents" fields in monographic bibliographic records. The "Table of Contents" fields can be ones created by Blackwell's Book Services or other external sources. Table of Contents enriched records provide additional access and displays in the OPAC. Authors and titles from the TOC fields may be searched and the TOC display resembles a printed table of contents from a book.

Innovative provides services to match Blackwell's TOC enriched records to the library's database on a monthly basis, delivering all new and/or changed TOC fields. The matching is a machine-to-machine match over the Internet and does not require that records be output for processing.

URL Checker

The administrative task of maintaining URLs in the bibliographic database can be time consuming and costly. Millennium's URL Checker gives the library the ability to automatically verify URLs stored in records in the bibliographic database. URL Checker can be set to run on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Libraries have the ability to exclude certain domains from the program as well as customize the record number and the URL that produced an error message. In addition, the library may run the URL Checker at any time over a range of records or a review file. A statistical report is produced that shows the number of errors found and frequency of error types.

Web Management Reports

Innovative offers a suite of Web-based graphical management reports that are accessed via a Web browser.

Web Management Reports offers the following:

  • Web hypertext links to move among report pages
  • Menu of report options displayed in browser window at all times
  • Ability to plot information as a pie chart, bar graph, table, or all three at once
  • Online, context-sensitive User Help at the click of a button
  • Ability to export data to a delimited ASCII file which can be opened in a third-party application (e.g., Microsoft Word or Excel)
  • Ease and familiarity of using Web browser of choice
  • Compatibility with Web browsers that support Java

Available reports include:

  • Patron search statistics
  • Circulation Statistics
  • Average discount by Vendor and Fund statistics (e.g. the percentage difference between list prices and prices actually paid for a book)
  • Cross-tabulation of circulation data (e.g., a table displaying number of items checked out of each library-defined item type, broken down by all library-defined patron types)
  • Online resource access statistics for those resources tracked using Millennium Web Access Management
  • Electronic Course Reserves access statistics
  • Vendor performance statistics
  • Fund management reports
  • Collection Development Report, including:
  • Age of collection
  • Number of circulations for call number range, size of collection, number of new titles and items, number of orders and amounts.

Z39.50 Client

Millennium provides different client interfaces for Z39.50 searching. The clients are Web Z39.50 Client for Searching, Character-based Z39.50 Client for Searching, Windows Z39.50 Client in Cataloging Workstation, and Java Z39.50 Client. The Millennium Z39.50 Client is an optional product and includes all the interfaces. The Millennium Z39.50 Client supports Version 2 of the Z39.50 Standard and many features of Version 3. Broadcast Z39.50 also comes with the Millennium Z39.50 Client, which allows for simultaneous searching of multiple databases. Each interface is geared toward the functions required in the specific module. For all of Millennium's Z39.50 interfaces there is an easily maintained table that includes the addresses and parameters for all the Z39.50 servers to which the library would like to offer access. Entries are easily added or modified by authorized library staff at any time.

Z39.50 Server

Millennium's powerful Z39.50 Server allows other Z39.50 clients to query and retrieve results from the bibliographic database using the ANSI/NISO Z39.50-1995 standard. The Millennium Z39.50 Server operates fully with clients that use either version 2 or version 3 of the Z39.50 protocol. The server supports the bib-1 attribute set and provides standard mapping to indexes based on the requested Use Attribute of the Z39.50 client. These mappings are fully customizable by the library.
