Tulsa, OK Tulsa City-County Library System is the primary information and resource center for the Tulsa, Oklahoma metropolitan area. The Central Library, four regional libraries, and 18 branch libraries in Tulsa County serve over 308,000 library cardholders who check out more than 3.7 million books and materials each year. More than 1.7 million volumes and numerous library services are available to the public. Such services range from Internet access and online databases, to adult literacy tutoring and children's reading programs. The Library's patrons are increasingly using the Internet to access the library's Web page (http://www.tulsalibrary.org), which receives approximately 30,000 hits each month. As technology becomes more prevalent and popular in libraries, so too will the demand for electronic means of accessing library materials. As such, Tulsa City-County library upgraded to Millennium in June of 1999 to better accommodate their patrons, who wanted to access the library catalog via the Internet. "We chose the Innovative system because we wanted an ILS with a proven track record in public libraries," said Lynnette Erhardt, Tulsa City-County Library's system administrator. "With Millennium, our customers have embraced the ability to look at their own library records, renew their own books, and especially, place their own holds on materials." "Moving from Notis to Innovative's Millennium system has been a quantum leap for library service in Tulsa. What was once awkward and difficult is now easy for customers to use," explained Linda Saferite, Tulsa City-County Library's executive director. "I hear almost daily how easy and accessible library services are to business owners, retirees, and moms. They let their fingers do the walking. Moms can now check the catalog and drive to the nearest location to get that special book on the night before their child's assignment is due! Millennium has opened up new vistas of service and our customers love it!" |
